FORM/S: DECOLONIZING THE BODY THROUGH MOVEMENT

FORM/S: DECOLONIZING THE BODY THROUGH MOVEMENT, Artist Talk
Base: Experimental Arts + Space, Seattle, WA, January 8, 2019

FORM/S is a bi-annual creative workshop in Seattle, WA produced by zoe | juniper, that brings together Pacific Northwest, national, and international artists to teach working professionals and pre-professionals in the visual and performing arts. FORM/S aims to expand an artists' capabilities by both deepening an understanding of their primary form and exploring mediums outside of their fields of work through an emergent curriculum. Serving as a forum for artists to share resources as they examine their own processes, FORM/S stimulates the mind, broadens perspectives, and creates connections. Past classes have included somatic based ballet, taking apart z|j repertory to remake it, drawing to develop your choreographic eye, vogue / house, African Diaspora dance practices, and in-process feedback sessions. The teaching artists and I co-create curriculum that is pertinent to our current research and process, shaping the structure of FORM/S to support the synthesizing of our teaching and creative practice. Guest teachers are asked to choose scholarship students and what type of outward facing they would like to have with the larger community (i.e. open classes, showings, dinners, classes, etc.). Teaching artists include choreographer Dani Tirrell, Gilbert Small, Juniper Shuey, artist’s talks with Randy Ford, David Rue, Negarra A. Kudumu, Michelle Ellsworth, Heather Kravis, Dayna Hansen and Kristen Kosmos.
